After Justin Bieber's remix in two languages to Despacito (2017) famous musicians soon started collaborating with reggaeton performers including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna with Maluma on Medellin (2019). In 2020, a few Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the advancing of their genre to the mainstream. But a newer generation such as Rauw Alejandro was keen to keep the trend going.
